Assallamu Alaikum –

As many of you heard about the fatal shooting that happened Friday December 14, 2012 in Connecticut USA – 20 school children died and 8 adults so a total of 28 creations of Allah SWT souls were returned to Allah SWT. This incident touches all people of all races and religions. The trial given to those loved ones left behind to deal with such loss is probably the hardest test of all. Although they are not Muslims, it doesn’t mean we cannot pray and ask Allah to ease each of the deceased loved ones hearts. Allah knows best.
My own initial reaction was that it could be my own child! Shivers and chills went up and down my spine just thinking about it. And as I sat in my office, glued to the computer monitor, I kept thinking of the Prophet Ibrahim who left Hager Ismail in Mecca (aka desert at the time) and simply walked away because Allah SWT instructed him to do so. And the time when Allah asked him to sacrifice his own son. How could he do it? Without Iman & Taqwa in his heart there would be no way to do so.
In the end, Allah is who protects us, our children, our families, our wealth, health and everything in between. If Allah wills it, we cannot stop it. But, in the instance there is disruption (as such as this event) we must stop and reflect and remember that Allah is great. We, humanity, made a covenant with Allah SWT and our destiny was written 50,000 years BEFORE we were born. So lets turn and smile more, love each other more, put down our weapons, hug our children be more patient and forgiving as this life is temporary.
Make dua for peace in this world. For those parents who lost children where ever they may be.
